The campaign has been initiated by the Australian Human Rights Commission. It invites all Australians both at the individual and the organisational level, to reflect on what they can do to counter racism, wherever it happens.
While cultural diversity is part of our national identity, the reality is that too many people in Australia experience prejudice, and racism on a regular basis. Racism costs workplaces and our economy.
Central Institute of Technology is a leading provider of training in Western Australia and is extremely proud to have a culturally rich and diverse workforce and student body.
At Central, our staff come from some 70 countries around the world and our students are from over 80 different countries. In a recent survey, this diversity was identified by our staff and students as a positive, distinctive feature of the Institute.
Currently, in the ESL portfolio alone, we have over 4,000 students who are migrants or humanitarian entrants. In addition, an average 1300 international students add to the multicultural mix at Central year on year.
At Central, we have the opportunity to consistently demonstrate to the wider community the benefits of a workplace that respects and values different cultures and races.
Ongoing promotion for the campaign includes two poster designs, three different lapel badges, a web page and external links to the national campaign website.
The visual prompts throughout our campuses serve as a reminder that is our actions, however small, that can make a difference. As Mahatma Ghandi stated so succinctly “Be the change you want to see in the world”.
