Perrie

Studying: Advance Diploma of Screen, Film and TV

What does that encompass?
We study a lot of production techniques, film making, and basically working together as a crew replicating real life industry methods of making a film together as a team.

What drew you to that field?
I’d always had a life long passion for design, for film and for the arts and this seemed like a great way to combine everything I love together.

What kind of career do you see this leading to?
I am looking for a career in production design. I’ve already worked in the industry with lecturers and got some work experience.

Describe a typical day at Central?
Most days we have a production meeting, the whole class will get together and we will discuss our upcoming film project, everyone’s progress on it and what needs to be done before we create our final product together.

What do you like about studying in the city?
It’s a really good central location,  there are heaps of cafés and places to go nearby.

Is there somewhere that you and your friends enjoy going after class?
We spend a lot of time at the Moon Café!

What do you think Central offers over uni?
I’ve spoken to some people that have attended university, and as opposed to studying film at Central, they always comment on how much more practical experience we have on a film set compared to what they learn. That’s really important when you are trying to get a job in the film industry, to look like you know what you are doing and actually know what you are doing on a film set!

What do you think Central's location offers?
It’s a cultural hot spot. We have the art gallery, the museum....We are studying the Arts and it's important that we are in an artistic area. And here, we're right in the middle of it.

Have you taken advantage of Centrals industry links?
I absolutely have, I have done work experience with some guest lecturers, which has lead to some fantastic commercial employment. And I’ve also done some paid work with lecturers who are industry professionals.

What’s the best thing about studying at Central?
I’d have to say the really practical experience that we get and the facilities here are fantastic. We get people from universities coming to use our facilities at TAFE because we’ve got the good stuff.
