Studying: Advanced Diploma in Interior Design

Why Interior Design?

I needed to do something more creative that  was very close to my real field which is architecture. We study interior spaces, try to find a good combination between materials and colours. Involves a lot of drawings and is very interesting!

Describe a typical day at Central
Come here early in the morning, and we attend class. We spend a lot of time in class  sharing information and sketching. When you have to draw you have your laptop always with you and you spend a lot of time on your desk trying to figure out and work out your plans.

Why Central?
What really made the difference and one of the reasons why I choose to study at Central is because of the connection with industry. I think that is really important.  The location is also fantastic which was also part of my decision.

What has been one of your achievements while you've been here?
I received an award for this kiosk I designed which is located in Wembley. Really interesting use of different materials and textures.

What is the process you go through in coming up with a design?
We always start off with the brief that the lecturer gives us. After analysing the brief we start with the first sketches and it’s important to visit the site to understand what is around you. It is also important to have the basic knowledge of where you want to end up with the project, so your ideas but also what you can find from the suppliers.

One of the interesting things about interior design is the final board that we do with samples and colours. This final presentation is very important because at the end you have to introduce and present your project and its always very challenging because you have to sell yourself and sell your product.

Can you tell us about your end of year exhibition?
The final exhibition that we had at the end of the year is always a very interesting experience because it is very challenging. You have to prove yourself to the industry and show the people that come to visit the exhibition that you did a good job and you are able to do a good job. It is a very important experience. I really enjoy it. It has been very hard but I am very happy.
