There are two main Centres of Specialisation on the campus and a third is currently being built.
Renewable Energy and Sustainability Centre
The new, $3.3 million Mining and Renewable Energy Training Centre facility allows students to develop sought after skills in both the resource and sustainability sectors.
On the resources side, the Centre has a core yard where students hoping to become Field Assistants or Pit Technicians can interpret the geology of a drill core (rock sample).
It also has a Fire Assay Laboratory where students can learn how to extract gold or any of the base metals from a mineral sample. Plus for those interested in careers in the exploration/mineral drilling side, there is a 4-wheel drive training and maintenance facility.
Green Skills Training Centre
The Centre will provide green skills training for technicians in the Engineering and Building, Design and Architectural studies areas; Electricians, Plumbers, Painters and Builders; specialised green jobs in renewable energy, bio-technology, water operations and environmental management.
The Centre will also act as a demonstration centre for sustainable design and energy efficiency.
