 First Centre

State's First Sustainability Centre

Central has established the State’s first Sustainability Centre at the East Perth campus.

The Centre delivers high level green skills to para-professionals and tradespersons in partnership with peak industry bodies as well as skill industry sectors that are central to Australia's response to creating a low carbon economy.

The establishment of the Centre allowed Central to introduce 15 new courses and enhance the delivery of 35 existing accredited courses.

Central will cater for an additional 2,500 students in the first three years of its operation, due to the capacity to offer specialised green skills training and to cater for unmet demand. Eventually, the Centre will cater for all students at Central as green skills are embedded in all training packages.

 Solar City Project

The Solar City Project

As part of the Perth Solar City project, Central has built the largest single grid-connected solar system in the Perth CBD and one of the largest in the State.

The 49 kilowatt solar photovoltaic system covers an area of 210 metres at Central's East Perth campus.

The solar installation comprises of 162 solar panels that generate 73,000 kilowatt hours each year. Any excess power produced will be fed back in to Western Australia's electricity grid.

The Solar City project is run by a consortium led by Western Power and aims to encourage industry, business, governments and the public to change the way they produce, use and save energy.

As the major training provider for technicians installing PV panels in Perth, the East Perth solar panels will also provide hands-on experience for students studying in this field.
